Q20Network Design

Drag and drop the multicast protocols from the left to the appropriate design situations on the right. <DragDrop items={["PIM-SM, SSM, BIDIR","PIM-DM, PIM-SM, SSM, BIDIR","IGMP","MSDP","MLD"]} slots={[{"answer":"IGMP","id":"ipv4_group_management","label":"IPv4 Group Management"},{"answer":"PIM-DM, PIM-SM, SSM, BIDIR","id":"ipv4_forwarding","label":"IPv4 Forwarding"},{"answer":"MSDP","id":"ipv4_interdomain_source_discovery","label":"IPv4 Interdomain Source Discovery"},{"answer":"MLD","id":"ipv6_group_management","label":"IPv6 Group Management"},{"answer":"PIM-SM, SSM, BIDIR","id":"ipv6_forwarding","label":"IPv6 Forwarding"}]} explanation={"IGMP manages IPv4 multicast receiver membership, and MLD performs the corresponding IPv6 membership function. PIM-DM, PIM-SM, SSM, and BIDIR provide IPv4 multicast forwarding; IPv6 forwarding uses the PIM-SM, SSM, and BIDIR models. MSDP discovers multicast sources across IPv4 multicast domains."} reuse={false} />

PIM-SM supports IPv4 and v6, while PIM-DM supports only IPv4. The correct order is: PIM-SM, SSM BIDIR -> IPv6 Forwarding PIM-DM, PIM-SM, SSM, BIDR -> IPv4 Forwarding IGMP -> IPv4 Group Management MSDP(Multicast Source Discovery Protocol) -> IPv4 Interdomain Source Discovery MLD(Multicast Listener Discovery) -> IPv6 Group Management

they reversed that

why would PIM-DM go to IPv6 and not IPv4? Makes no sense to me

Just saw the 1st link was HP, not Cisco - so PIM-DM only for IPv4

in the CCDE official cert guide, chapter 13, multicast routing protocols, there is a comparison table: PIM-DM: IPv4 PIM-SM: IPv4/6 PIM-SSM: IPv4/6 PIM-BIDIR: IPv4/6

No IPv6 PIM-DM mentioned https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/ipmulti_pim/configuration/xe-16/imc-pim-xe-16-book/ip6-mcast-pim-sm.html

Bad question as both IPv4 and IPv6 support PIM-DM... https://techhub.hpe.com/eginfolib/networking/docs/switches/5820x-5800/5998-7383r_ip-multi_cg/content/441757461.htm#:~:text=IPv6%20PIM-DM%20is%20a%20type%20of%20dense%20mode,small-sized%20networks%20with%20densely%20distributed%20IPv6%20multicast%20members. https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/ios-xml/ios/ipmulti_pim/configuration/xe-16/imc-pim-xe-16-book/imc-tech-oview.html
