Q129IP Connectivity

A network engineer is upgrading a small data center to support several new applications, including server backups that are expected to use as much as 90% of the bandwidth during peak periods. The data center connects to the MPLS provider by way of a primary circuit and a secondary circuit. How can the engineer update the data center inexpensively so that backup-related traffic does not saturate the primary circuit?

Selected Answer: C To inexpensively update the data center and avoid saturation of the primary circuit by traffic associated with the backups, the network engineer can use the following solution: C. Advertise a more specific route for the backup traffic via the secondary circuit. By advertising a more specific route for the backup traffic via the secondary circuit, the engineer can make sure that the backup traffic is sent through the secondary circuit instead of overloading the primary circuit. This can be done by setting up the routing protocols or static routes to favor the secondary circuit for the backup traffic. This approach lets the engineer take advantage of the existing infrastructure and circuits without needing extra dedicated equipment or circuits, making it a cost-effective solution. It effectively separates the backup traffic from the rest of the data center traffic and ensures efficient use of the available network resources.

Selected Answer: C 2 key points here are: "inexpensively update" and "avoid saturation of the primary circuit" so we need setup the backup at secondary circuit. Moreover, dedicated ... are expensive things.

Selected Answer: C By advertising a more specific route for the backup traffic over the secondary circuit, the engineer can steer this high-bandwidth traffic away from the primary circuit, helping prevent saturation. This is inexpensive because it uses existing infrastructure instead of needing new hardware or dedicated circuits, and it uses routing mechanisms to manage traffic flow. Incorrect options: A and B: These organize local traffic but don't prevent WAN saturation. D: Effective but expensive, needing new circuits.

I think that all the answers given could be correct. Can anyone explain?

Answer C is correct since it is the cheapest option, with it being a simple IP route specification. Everything else is either more time consuming or needs more overhead costs.

The correct answer is B. Put the backup servers in a dedicated VLAN. Putting the backup servers in a dedicated VLAN lets you segregate and control the backup traffic inside the data center. This solution helps stop saturation of the primary circuit by assigning a specific VLAN for the backup traffic and allowing bandwidth management, traffic isolation, and the use of Quality of Service (QoS) policies.

i think putting the servers in a dedicated vlan doesnt solve the issue because you would still need a traffic path to get to that vlan/subnet

Selected Answer: C C seems to make the most sense, but how would you actually do these advertisements? VTP mode transparent? Is there some other way?
